Intervention is the "interruption" of the vicious cycle of drug and/or alcohol misuse or addiction, in which the goal is to bring healing to the entire family system.
An intervention is conducted by a professionally trained interventionist who guides the family through a formal meeting, with a focus on compassion and love. The goal of the intervention is to provide specialized treatment for their addiction. In addition, an intervention can also be utilized with someone who has a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use disorder, or just a mental health disorder on its own.
An intervention provides a loving and compassionate conversation with the person who suffers from addiction and offers a solution tailored to their current life situation. This sets a healing path in motion toward recovery and a full life as it breaks the current cycle of self-destruction and despair for everyone involved.
The beauty of an intervention is that it offers healing and love for the whole family, with the intention of bringing everyone back together on different footing.
When is an intervention appropriate?
In most cases the person suffering from untreated mental health or substance use disorders is unable to see the problem to the depth that it actually affects their lives or the live of family, friends and/or co-workers.
An intervention can be what helps to break through that denial.
What would the process look like for you?
The intervention itself is more than just the day of the in-person event. Intervention is a process.
A pre-intervention meeting is held before the actual intervention whereby the family is educated in what addiction is and a rehearsal of the intervention is conducted by those who will be in attendance.
After the intervention, I remain engaged with you for 90 days to help you provide the best support for your loved one, no matter the outcome on the day of the actual intervention. Additionally, I remain in weekly contact with clinicians involved in your loved one’s care.
